Beer goulash

Ingredients for 10 servings:

  • 1 ½ kg mixed meat for goulash (beef and pork)
  • ½ liter of beer, dark or black beer
  • ¾ liter water or broth
  • 1 kg onion(s), diced
  • 2 tbsp Clarified butter, lard or oil
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder, sweet and hot
  • Caraway as desired
  • cornstarch

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Lightly fry the onions in lard or oil, add the meat and fry. Add the tomato paste and fry briefly. Pour in the beer and water or broth and season to taste. Then let the goulash simmer gently for about 1 hour (or longer depending on the size of the meat pieces). Add more water if necessary. Before serving, thicken slightly with cornstarch and season again to taste. Serve with boiled potatoes or bread dumplings.
