Tomato sauce according to Marcella Hazan

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 can of tomatoes (400 g)
  • 1 small onion(s)
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 3 pinches of salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Peel and halve the onion, then simmer the halves in a saucepan with the butter, tomatoes, and salt for about 45 minutes. While cooking, break up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon. Season to taste with basil, pepper, and garlic before serving, and discard the onion halves.
