Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg beef or veal
  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 3 onions, grated
  • 4 bell peppers, red, finely chopped
  • 1 pepper, hot, finely chopped
  • 700 g tomatoes, pureed
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ½ bunch parsley, chopped
  • some caraway
  • some oregano
  • salt and pepper
  • some parsley, chopped, for garnishing
  • 1 cup of cheese (Kefalotiri), or Gruyère

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Peel, boil, and slice the potatoes. Wash the meat, cut into bite-sized pieces, and place in a bowl. Add the tomatoes, bell peppers, chili peppers, onions, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper, and mix well. Transfer everything to a Roman pot. Place the potato slices over the meat and tomato mixture. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for about 2.5 hours. Sprinkle with cheese just before the meal is ready. Serve with chopped parsley.
