Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 minutes; Total time approx. 32 minutes
Classic for deep frying, for approx. 18 pieces
Beat the butter and eggs until light and fluffy. Stir in the sugar, milk, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg. Add the flour and baking powder and knead into a slightly firm dough. It should be firm enough to roll out easily on a floured surface. The dough should be about 1 cm thick. Now cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or two glasses of different sizes. Heat the oil in a saucepan or deep fryer. Use enough oil so that the doughnuts can float. Use a slotted spoon to add one or two doughnuts, depending on the size of the pan. Be careful: they might splash! The hotter the oil, the quicker they’ll be ready, but if you’re not careful, they’ll also turn out very dark. So go slowly. Now remove them from the pan with a slotted spoon and let them drain on a paper towel. Sprinkle with sugar if you like, or cover with melted chocolate coating and serve immediately while lukewarm.
