Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 400 g squid(s)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp oil (soybean oil)
  • 7 tbsp soy sauce, sweet
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce, light
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • pepper
  • chili powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

The Chumichumi are the best

Cut the squid into bite-sized pieces. Heat the oil in a saucepan, lightly sauté the finely chopped garlic, add the tomato paste, and pour in the soy sauce and fish sauce. Season with plenty of freshly ground pepper. Add the squid, cover, and simmer for about 60 minutes. Season with chili and serve with cooked rice. You can, of course, braise some vegetables (carrots, peppers, etc.) to taste; we originally ate it without vegetables. We really enjoyed this Indonesian braised dish in Sulawesi. The Indonesian name shouldn’t give any clues as to the consistency of the squid, which is usually buttery soft!
