Sorbian dumplings in Italian tomato and basil sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 200 g breadcrumbs
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 egg(s)
  • Salt
  • nutmeg
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 400 g tomatoes, fresh or from a can
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • some basil
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

For the dumplings, mix breadcrumbs with milk and egg, season with salt and nutmeg to taste. Form dumplings and cook in boiling water for about 10 minutes. For the sauce, chop the onion and garlic cloves and sauté in olive oil. Add the tomatoes and sugar and simmer for 15 minutes. Season with basil, salt, and pepper. To serve, toss the dumplings in the sauce and garnish with fresh basil.
