Green beans steamed grandma's way

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 750 g beans, green
  • 40 g butter or margarine
  • 1 small onion(s)
  • 125 ml water
  • some salt
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water, cold to mix
  • 1 tbsp flat-leaf parsley, chopped

Instructions

Working time approx. 35 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

If you want green beans, use a flat, broad variety, preferably pole beans. For broad beans, choose the round, fleshy, so-called bacon beans. Strip the strings, wash, and cut or break them. Render the fat. Fry the diced onion in it until light yellow. Then heat the beans briefly. Add the water and a little salt and simmer the beans over low heat for about 20 minutes until tender. Then thicken them with the mixed cornstarch, season with salt, and sprinkle with parsley. Alteration: Sauté 250g of diced tomatoes for 10 minutes.
