Hunter's cabbage, great-grandmother's style

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 m.-large white cabbage
  • 250 g smoked streaky bacon
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 650 g potatoes
  • salt and pepper
  • Sugar
  • Vinegar

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Quarter the white cabbage, remove the stalk, and cut into 1/2 cm thick strips. Wash and drain. Finely dice the bacon and fry in oil. Fry the chopped onions until golden brown. Then add the cabbage and sauté for 5 minutes, stirring. Add 2 cups of water, add the finely diced potatoes, and simmer for about 30 minutes. Season to taste with pepper, salt, sugar, and sweet and sour vinegar. Tip: Tastes best reheated.
