A Baden specialty, makes about 10. They taste great hot or cold, but also with fruit or ice cream.
Using a whisk, mix flour, eggs, milk, a generous pinch of salt, and 4 sachets of vanilla sugar into a runny batter. Heat 1 liter of sunflower oil in a deep frying pan (approx. 26 cm in diameter). Important: The oil must be very hot, otherwise the Striebele won’t crisp up nicely. Using a ladle, fill the batter in portions into a funnel (hold your finger over the funnel opening to prevent spillage). Pass the funnel over the oil. Remove your finger from the opening. Let the batter flow wildly into the hot oil to form a long, curled snake (it should end up being a round tangle the size of a frying pan) and bake for about 2 minutes. When the underside is nice and light brown, flip the Striebele over with tongs and bake for another 2 minutes. Remove and place on kitchen paper. Immediately sprinkle with powdered sugar. Make as many Striebele as you need until the portion is used up.
