Baby Bathing Step By Step: Practical Care Tips For Your Sweetheart

Spread the love

New parents are often nervous about their baby’s first bath. But no worry! With our simple step-by-step instructions, your child is guaranteed to enjoy the trip to the tub – and come out of the water happy and squeaky clean.

Which tub should it be?

The first step in bathing your baby is choosing the right tub. The rule here is: try it out! Some parents use special baby bath buckets, others baby tubs and others like to put their offspring in the sink. The following applies here: Orientate yourself according to your child! So try out different containers for the first time and see where your darling feels most comfortable.

When preparing, make sure that the water temperature is correct. A mild 37 degrees is ideal for delicate baby skin. Important: Always check with a thermometer!

Then, have a washcloth and towels ready. Good to know: clear water is sufficient for cleaning children aged six to eight weeks. Wash older babies with special products for the youngest, such as baby shampoo or bath products for children.

Baby bathing made easy with the washcloth

Always let your baby slowly and carefully slide into the water at the beginning. Then wash your loved one from head to toe with a washcloth.

Always think of hidden areas of skin such as the skin between the toes, behind the ears or folds on the neck. So that your baby does not cool down, the entire bath should last about five to ten minutes.

Important: Don’t just see regular bathing as practical cleaning. Instead, use it as valuable family time and a contemplative relaxation ritual that strengthens your bond with your child.

The care afterward

Immediately after the bath, wrap your child in a large dry bath towel and gently pat dry. Delicate baby skin tends to react irritated and reddened to vigorous rubbing.

After drying, ideally, pamper the sensitive skin with a nourishing lotion or moisturizing care oil.

Good to know: How often you bathe your baby is very individual. In the first few weeks of life, however, pediatricians recommend about one or two baths a week. During this time, pay particular attention to our tips on navel care.

With us you will find a lot more information about babies – on topics such as baby acne, drying out, bathing, care oils, and the first teeth.
