Bake Microwave Mug Cakes – That’s How it Works

We show you how to bake a mug cake in the microwave. You can no longer use this kitchen appliance just to heat up food.

Chocolate mug cake from the microwave

You need 50 g flour, 70 g sugar, 2 tbsp baking cocoa, a pinch of salt, some cinnamon to taste, 60 ml water, 2 tbsp vegetable oil, and some vanilla. You can of course reduce the sugar as needed. We recommend rapeseed oil as vegetable oil, as this does not have a strong taste of its own. Definitely avoid olive oil.

  • First, mix all the dry ingredients together. This is important so you can smooth out any lumps before adding the wet ingredients.
  • Now gradually add the wet ingredients and stir until a smooth mass is formed.
  • Then put the cup in the microwave for about 1 minute and 40 seconds at 1000 watts. But you can also set it to just 60 seconds first, so you can check whether that might be too hot.
  • Instead of the cocoa, you can of course also add any combination to the dough.
  • With tangerines instead of cocoa, you get a wonderfully fruity mug cake. However, we also recommend that you add a little more vanilla to the dough, as it tastes very delicious in combination with the tangerine.
  • If you add chocolate flakes, you get a mug cake that tastes a lot like a large cookie with chocolate chips.
  • Lemon in the batter can give you a fresh mug cake. Simply use either the lemon juice or the grated zest. If you only grate the zest, you can use the rest of the lemon to make delicious lemonade.
