Basil is not only a healthy spice but also good for your hair. In this article, you can find out what the home remedy can do for hair care.
Basil for the hair – what the medicinal herb can do
To put it simply, basil can stop hair loss.
- This is due to a substance that inhibits a specific enzyme in the scalp called 5-alpha reductase.
- This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
- DHT, in turn, inhibits the development of the hair roots if there is an intolerance to DHT. This is the case with hereditary hair loss.
- Women usually don’t have a problem with this until menopause, as estrogen protects against the effects of DHT. If estrogen levels drop due to hormonal changes, women often lose their hair during menopause.
- Since basil, as mentioned at the beginning, inhibits the formation of DHT from testosterone, the spice can prevent the loss of hair.
How to apply basil to hair
There is no harm in regularly using basil as a spice. After all, basil is one of the iron-rich foods and iron deficiency can promote hair loss.
- However, to use the spice effectively on your hair, you need basil extract.
- In addition to basil, this extract also contains other oils that stimulate hair growth.
- Using the extract is quite simple. Put three pipettes of it on the scalp and massage the extract thoroughly.
- Leave it on for at least half an hour before washing your hair with a mild shampoo.
- In order for the basil extract to be effective, you should use it at least three times a week.
