Limescale on the faucet is a common problem in older homes. Limescale on the faucet cannot be cleaned with conventional cleaners and spoils the faucet itself. It is caused by impurities in the water.
Chemical remedies for faucet scaling
In hardware stores, you can buy special limescale remedies. They are usually sold as a powder or spray. Note that some delicate materials, such as marble and stone, should not be treated with chemicals.
Laundry soap
Laundry soap removes limescale from the faucet and gives it a shiny finish. Grate a bar of soap and put it in a bowl. Fill with hot water and stir until smooth. Add a teaspoon to the mixture. Using a soft sponge, apply the mush to the mixer and leave it for 2 hours. Then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Vinegar
Heat 9% vinegar slightly on the stove or in the microwave. Moisten a towel or large cloth with it and wrap it around the faucet. Depending on how dirty you are, leave the cloth on the faucet for anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Then wipe the faucet with a toothbrush (soft so there are no scratches).
Soda
Dissolve 3 teaspoons of baking soda in 100 ml of warm water. Stir until a thick sour cream is obtained. With a soft cloth, apply the mixture to the soiled areas of the faucet. Allow it to stand for 90-120 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Important: The baking soda should not be rubbed into the faucet, as it can leave scratches. Apply the substance gently.
Lemon juice
The juice of fresh lemon is a good way to dissolve scale on a faucet. But it is better not to use citric acid – it can leave scratches. Cut the lemon into halves and rub the pulp on the faucet, squeezing the juice. Leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse the faucet with a damp sponge.
Dishwashing Liquid
You can even use undiluted dishwashing detergent on delicate faucets such as chrome, stone, and gold. Apply generously to the faucet and let it sit for one hour. Then wipe the faucet with a sponge.
