Clean Thermos: Clean And Protect Stainless Steel, Glass And Coatings

Often in use, always practical: it delivers cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter. However, frequent use means that you should clean your thermos regularly. We have summarized tips for you on the use of home remedies as well as on different cleaning variants.

Clean the thermos flask – with washing-up liquid

Regularly cleaning the thermos flask avoids bad odors and stubborn discolouration. Accordingly, you should turn on the tap after each use. This is the base. It is best to use some washing-up liquid and a soft washing-up brush. Once cleaned, wash the thermos thoroughly inside and out. There should no longer be any bubbles in the water. Then let the inside air dry. If you don’t have a brush to hand, you can also clean the inside of the thermos with rice. Just add a little to the rinse water, close the cap and shake the mixture.

Cleaning the thermos: home remedies that work

First of all: the dishwasher is not the right place to clean your thermos flask. If you were to clean your thermos with dishwasher tabs, the coating would very likely suffer. If your pitcher has a glass liner or lining, you can fill it with hot water and then the juice of half a lemon. The thermos flask can be rinsed out just a quarter of an hour later – you’ve also gotten rid of odors. Dirt can also be effectively removed using the starch of a potato. To do this, clean, peel and chop a tuber, put it in the pot, mix everything with warm water and leave it to work overnight. The next morning you can finally clean the thermos flask with warm water. We have also summarized how you can use citric acid in the household as a sustainable helper.

Clean a stainless steel thermos

Stainless steel is robust and easy to care for. It is therefore best to clean stainless steel thermos flasks with baking powder or baking soda. To do this, mix a teaspoon of the powder with water – directly in the thermos flask. It should be quite full, being careful as foam will form. Inside, the powder dissolves fats and proteins. And at the end, you can simply rinse the jug. You can also clean your thermos coffee jug in this way. If you want to clean the thermos jug lid, ideally always take it completely apart. Then you can put the individual parts in a bowl with baking soda or baking powder – or simply wash them off thoroughly.

By the way: cleaning the thermos with baking soda only works on uncoated models. Otherwise, the powder could attack the coating. You can also read with us what baking soda is all about – and how you can clean your ceramic hob.
