Cowboy goulash

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg beef goulash, cut the pieces in half against the grain
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 onions, roughly diced
  • 1 can of tomatoes, chopped with juice (400 ml)
  • 1 can kidney beans, with juice (400 ml)
  • 1 can chili beans in spicy sauce (400 ml)
  • 2 garlic cloves, squeezed
  • 1 tbsp, heaped chili powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¾ tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp oregano, dried (optional)
  • 2 pinches of sugar
  • 250 ml beef broth, seasoned, approx.
  • Salt
  • Tabasco

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 hours; Total time approx. 5 hours 30 minutes

a recipe for a 3.5 l crock pot / slow cooker

First, sear the beef goulash briefly on all sides in hot oil and then add it to the crock pot. Reduce the heat slightly. Sauté the onions in the remaining oil until translucent and then add it to the pot. Add the tomatoes, beans, and spices to the pot and mix briefly. Add enough beef broth to just cover the dish. Cover. Simmer on high for 4-5 hours. Season with salt and Tabasco, if desired, before serving. Tip: This dish can be prepared the day before.
