These are the best alternatives to wheat flour
- If you want to bake low-carb, then wheat flour has no place in your list of ingredients. Instead, you should use nuts. Use chopped or grated almonds or hazelnuts instead.
- Special flours made from nuts or seeds can also be used for a low-carb diet. These include, for example, the types of coconut, sesame, poppy seed or almond flour.
- Spelled or rye flour are also good alternatives to conventional wheat flour – however, these flours contain gluten and also many carbohydrates. Nevertheless, these varieties are considered healthier alternatives to white flour.
- Amaranth flour can also be used as a flour substitute. The seeds contain a high iron and protein content, are suitable as a low-carb alternative to white flour, and also contain no gluten.
- Buckwheat flour, on the other hand, is not suitable for a low-carb diet, but it is gluten-free.
- With a gluten-free flour substitute, it should always be noted that additional starch and binding agents often have to be added in order to be able to use it like normal wheat flour.
- Basically, you should not use the flour substitute in the same way as wheat flour – with the exception of spelled or rye flour. It is advisable to proceed individually and to follow the instructions in recipes.
