I made a sea cake for my wife’s birthday because I wanted something original and she loves the sea. Since fondant cakes are always a labor-intensive undertaking and require time, nerves, and peace of mind, I sacrificed half a day for it. The pictures and video show you how labor-intensive something like this is, but the shining eyes of the recipient are always worth it. If possible, use silicone molds for an underwater world. 1. As a base, make a chocolate sponge cake base from the listed ingredients and cut it in half crosswise. 2. Put the quark in a bowl and mix it with a little of the sour cherry syrup. 3. Place the bottom layer on a cake plate, put strips of baking paper underneath, and place a cake ring around it. 4. Spread the cream over the base and arrange the halved cherries on top. 5. Spread a little more cream on top, place the top layer on top, and press it down. Fill any gaps around the edges with more cream if necessary. 6. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter with the powdered sugar and vanilla until creamy and almost white. 7. Spread the buttercream onto the cake with a spatula and spread it as evenly as possible (don’t forget the edges). Then let the cake cool slightly in the refrigerator so that the buttercream sets. 8. Dust the work surface with powdered sugar and roll out the light blue fondant thinly so that it completely covers the cake. 9. Carefully place the fondant on and around the cake and smooth it out. Trim off any excess edges with a knife. 10. For the decoration, roll out the desired colored fondant pieces and press them into the silicone molds, trimming off any excess edges if necessary. The seaweed is rolled out of small green pieces of fondant. For the octopus, roll out 8 arms, form a ball for the head and place it on the cake with the sugar eyes. The duckpox is made from red balls with a hole pressed into the middle. 11. Attach the fondant decoration to the cake with a little buttercream. Have fun making it! Naturally Delicious
