Freeze Tomatoes – You Should Pay Attention to That

Tomatoes are not necessarily one of the vegetables that freeze particularly well. However, you can also preserve your tomatoes by refrigerating them for longer. We will show you what is important.

Tips & Tricks: Freeze tomatoes properly

  • Only freeze the tomatoes if they are not damaged or bruised. Tomatoes that are too soft or too hard are also not suitable.
  • You can freeze tomatoes whole or sliced. The skin can remain on the whole piece, chop the tomatoes if you loosen the skin beforehand, for example by blanching.
  • Wash the tomatoes under the tap and remove the stalk. Then pack the whole or divided tomatoes in a freezer bag or a suitable tin and freeze them. At -18 degrees Celsius, the tomatoes will keep for at least 10 months.
  • Once thawed, you should only use the tomatoes for cooking or process them in other ways. Due to the high water content, they are no longer suitable for raw consumption. Beefsteak tomatoes are therefore quite suitable for freezing.
  • Tip: Simply make a tomato sauce or a seasoned soup from your remaining tomatoes. These are easier to freeze and you don’t have to process the tomatoes after they have been thawed.
