Goose Fat: Animal Fat is Really That Healthy

Goose fat is so healthy

Animal fat is far healthier than many people think:

  • Goose fat consists of 35 percent saturated fats – significantly less than, for example, butter with 51 percent. Monounsaturated fats make up 52 percent, and about 13 percent are polyunsaturated fats, such as omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.
  • The high content of unsaturated fatty acids reduces cholesterol in the blood and has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system.
  • The ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids depends on what the animals have eaten. A happy goose is allowed to spend a lot of time outdoors and thus eats a lot of greens (i.e. a lot of vegetable omega-3 fatty acid).
  • The polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids are very healthy, especially for people suffering from rheumatism.

Using goose fat – top tips

Goose fat is healthy and versatile – in the kitchen and as a remedy:

  • If you use goose fat for fried potatoes, they get a particularly delicious taste.
  • Prepare your own goose fat from goose fat, onions, apple, and some lard and salt and you will have a delicious and healthy spread.
  • Goose fat is also a proven home remedy, for example for colds. Breast wraps with the animal fat usually lead to an improvement within a short time.
  • In the case of ulcers or abscesses on the skin, poultices with goose fat have a pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effect – but you should of course have a doctor take a look at them.
