If you want to cook sushi rice, there are a few differences compared to normal rice. You can serve it in the classic way with sushi in a nori sheet or sweet as a dessert. The rice is also suitable for a summer roll in rice paper.
Cooking sushi rice: you have to pay attention to this
Not all rice is suitable for sushi because sushi rice has particularly sticky properties. This makes it easy to shape and ideal for rolling.
- Buy only real sushi rice and rinse thoroughly with water two to three times before cooking until the water runs clear.
- Take about two cups of water for each cup of rice and put them in a saucepan.
- Bring the rice and water to a boil. Let it simmer on low flame for about 15 to 20 minutes.
- If necessary, add a little water if the sushi rice becomes too dry during cooking.
- Then let the rice cool down.
Use the rice for sushi
You can now use it for sushi without nori or season it for the sushi rolls.
- Classic sushi rice is just mixed with some rice vinegar and sea salt.
- For classic sushi, place a tablespoon of sushi rice in the middle of a sheet of nori and flatten it with a spoon.
- Place other ingredients such as cucumber strips, avocado strips, carrot strips or sliced salmon in the middle of the rice and roll the nori sheet into a sushi roll.
- Now cut the roll into small pieces and enjoy the morsels.
- Serve with wasabi, pieces of ginger or soy sauce and you have a classic sushi dish.
