Rice is good for people with a tendency to edema, and especially for those with cardiovascular disease. Porridge is often called the perfect breakfast, and many people choose oatmeal as their morning meal. Nutritionist Natalia Denisova spoke about another healthy breakfast option.
According to her, oatmeal is low in calories, yet contains a sufficient amount of protein, and also saturates the body with healthy carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Moreover, oatmeal has a large amount of coarse fiber – it, in turn, removes harmful substances, performing the function of cleansing the body. However, this applies only to whole grains.
Rice porridge can be a useful substitute for traditional oatmeal. However, if we are not talking about white polished cereal, there is little good in it, according to the nutritionist. As an alternative, she suggests brown or wild rice (unpolished, with a shell). Such cereals contain a large amount of potassium, which removes excess fluid from the body. For this reason, the expert notes, rice is useful for people with a tendency to edema, and especially for those with cardiovascular disease. In addition, rice protein is well absorbed.
Millet porridge, according to the nutritionist, is a leader in the amount of magnesium. We are talking about a mineral that is essential for the nervous system and muscle function. However, the expert warned that millet porridge contains a large amount of healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids, which is why it is poorly stored and quickly becomes rancid.
Couscous. Cereal can be made from durum wheat, millet, or rice. For this reason, its nutritional characteristics depend on the raw material from which it was made. For example, if it is made from durum wheat, it will have all the beneficial properties of wheat. It contains protein, which is well absorbed. In addition, such porridge will contain vitamins and minerals, but only if the hull was not removed from the grain, and the grain was simply added.
