Cooking rice in the microwave rice cooker
BEFORE FIRST USE
Basically, the microwave rice cooker is ready for immediate use after the first unpacking. In order to remove superficial dust, however, it is advisable to clean the surface of the pot and the lid with a sponge and a little washing-up liquid.
COOKING WITH THE MICROWAVE RICE COOKER
Take the cup included in the set and add the desired amount of rice. 1 cup of rice filled to the brim is enough for 2-3 servings. Now tip the rice into the pot and wash it 2-3 times. You do this by pouring cold water into the pot and washing the rice with your fingers. Pour out the cloudy water. Now add the right amount of water, also with the cup. With classic white rice varieties such as our Basmati, Jasmine or Sadri rice, we recommend adding 1.5 – 2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice – depending on how grainy or soft you want your rice grain to be. Now add a pinch of salt and, if necessary, a dash of olive oil.
Close the rice cooker and place in the microwave. Now turn your microwave on high. After 11-12 minutes the rice is ready.
ATTENTION!
Since every microwave has different high temperature settings, please make sure that you check the pot from time to time during the 12-minute cooking process when using it for the first time to ensure that there is constantly enough water and that the microwave is not set to a too hot level. Otherwise the pot threatens to melt. In such a case, no guarantee services can be asserted.
AFTER USE
Before washing up, the microwave rice cooker should be allowed to cool down. You can then clean the device with a light sponge or cloth and some washing-up liquid. Alternatively, the rice cooker can also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
Some important rice to water ratios:
- Basmati rice: 1 cup rice = 1.5 cups water
- Jasmine rice: 1 cup rice = 1.5 cups water
- Sadri rice: 1 cup rice = 1.5 cups water
- Sticky rice: 1 cup rice = 2 cups water
We recommend using the microwave rice cooker only for white husked rice varieties. Of course, whole grain varieties can also be prepared in it. However, with an average rice to water ratio of 1 to 3, the cooking process here takes up to 30 minutes, which is a relatively long time considering the energy consumption of a microwave. We therefore recommend preparing wholemeal varieties in the classic way in a saucepan or an electric rice cooker.
How do you cook rice in a microwave rice cooker?
Pour the 1 cup of rinsed rice into the rice cooker and add 1½ cups of water and a pinch of salt for flavor. Place the vented rice cooker in the microwave, and nuke on high for 5 minutes. Then lower to medium power or 70%, and cook rice for 10 minutes for white rice and 20 minutes for brown or wild rice.

Are microwave rice cookers any good?
If space in your kitchen is limited, a microwavable rice cooker is a good alternative to an electric version. This model is large enough to cook four servings of rice and can also be used to make couscous, quinoa and other grains.
