Hungarian-style sausage goulash

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 100 g bacon, streaky
  • 2 large onions
  • 500 g meat sausage
  • 2 bell peppers, green
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar, a strong pinch
  • 2 tbsp paprika powder, sweet
  • 1 tsp paprika powder, hot
  • 500 g tomatoes
  • 125 ml broth
  • Salt
  • ½ tsp thyme, dried
  • 125 ml sour cream

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Dice the bacon and cook in a pan until translucent, then add the peeled and diced onion and cook until golden yellow. Fry the skinned and roughly diced sausage in the same pan. Clean, wash and dice the bell peppers and add them to the pan. Sprinkle everything with the sugar and paprika seasoning and cook everything thoroughly, stirring occasionally. Peel and dice the tomatoes and add them to the pan. Stir the dish thoroughly and bring to a boil. Now add the stock to the pan, season with salt and simmer for 15 minutes. Just before serving, add the sour cream. Serve with pasta or rice.
