Is breast milk vegan?
- Breast milk is the species-appropriate food for a human infant through to infancy, just as cow’s milk is the natural food for a calf. It contains all the nutrients in exactly the composition that the child needs for development and maturation.
- The main motivation for many vegans to adopt a plant-based diet is to avoid animal suffering and exploitation. No animal has to suffer in the production of breast milk for the baby. On the contrary: breastfeeding releases happiness hormones in mother and child and thus ensures a stronger mother-child bond.
