Is QuanTanium Cookware Safe?

What is QuanTanium made of?

QuanTanium is an internally reinforced, waterborne, multicoat. It incorporates a unique mix of titanium particles blended into the coating that stands up to almost anything.

QuanTanium is a nonstick that has been reinforced with titanium, so that its resistance and durability is much higher than other nonsticks that can be found on the market.

Titanium is the lightest and hardest metal known. That motivated the name of titanium, in memory of the first mythical settlers of the earth: the titans.

Quantanium is a non-stick made by Withford and developed thanks to the collaboration of Unold and Whitford, Unold being the only manufacturer that uses it as a non-stick in bread makers. When in doubt about other brands that are copies of Unold, you should always ask for certificates that they really use Quantanium.

Alternatives to Teflon non-sticks have been sought due to its proven toxicity. Titanium is the best known choice:

  • Titanium is the material used in surgery for prostheses and implants, because it is the most biocompatible material known, the one that is best tolerated by the body. In fact there has never been any case of allergy to titanium. This is a subject that leads to confusion, since we have all heard a case of people who have rejected titanium dental implants, or perhaps a hip or knee prosthesis… We must clarify that this is not due to allergy to titanium, that is to say , there is no immunological mechanism involved, it is a rejection of the implant due to causes such as: bone necrosis, infection, poor quality of the bone where the implant is fixed, or poor procedures when adjusting them. It is not possible for a titanium non-stick coating to cause allergies.
  • If we consider what happens with the high temperatures that a bakery mold supports, titanium does not suffer any alteration, as we know that occurs with Teflon. Titanium is the metal used in aerospace engineering due to its resistance to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, and its stability under sudden changes.
  • And as for contact with different substances, it is an inert material that is resistant even to acids, to corrosion (that is why it is used in desalination plants) and that does not rust (hence its use in the chemical industry).
  • Titanium is present in the most demanding applications: engine coatings, space capsule construction, surgery (bone substitute, cartilage, heart valves), golf clubs…
  • In addition, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified it as a non-carcinogenic agent in humans.

Characteristics of QuanTanium compared to other non-stick agents

  • First and only nonstick with a unique blend of titanium particles.
  • The multi-layer reinforced titanium is the most resistant non-stick known to date.
  • The system used to manufacture QuanTanium has been designed to obtain maximum synergy with titanium, thus obtaining maximum resistance, since titanium is a much harder metal than chrome or steel.

Is Whitford nonstick coating safe?

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration), NSF (National Sanitation Foundation), the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and other regulatory agencies all make clear that PTFE is completely safe for people and the environment.
