It’s Lent! You have until Easter to say goodbye to old unhealthy habits and reset your body. We’ll tell you how to do it.
Slim and healthy through fasting
You don’t need much during Lent. Because in these days or weeks only minimal amounts of calories are allowed per day. Juices, teas, and broth are the main items on the menu. In between, there is plenty of mineral water and herbal tea. The body receives neither fat nor protein, which is easy for digestion and metabolism.
The liquid food provides all the necessary vitamins and minerals that drain, strengthen the connective tissue and ensure that you can go about your everyday life as usual. Because the body of healthy people has enough reserves to have enough energy for a few days despite a greatly reduced calorie intake. The vital substances in liquid food are sufficient to allow bodily functions to function as usual. Thanks to a large amount of liquid, the intestines and kidneys excrete excess residual components of the food, so that the body is cleansed from the inside. Feelings of hunger rarely arise. The reason for this lies in the slow drinking. During Lent, fruit, and vegetable juices are diluted 50:50 with mineral water and then spooned up like soup. The saturation effect is much higher than with normal fast drinking, because spooning stimulates salivation, activates the digestive glands, and thus ensures that the nutrients are utilized in the best possible way.
Therapeutic fasting begins with two days of relief to prepare the body. The best time to start is on a Saturday. Then comes the actual fasting of five days during which you are not allowed to eat anything solid. However, they absorb a lot of liquid: unsweetened teas, diluted fruit and vegetable juices, and vegetable broth. As an inexperienced faster, these five days are enough for the time being. If you decide to fast again a few months later, you can fast for up to ten days. The drinking days are followed by two build-up days, during which you slowly get your body used to solid food again. It starts with an apple and a vegetable soup.
As an alternative to classic juice fasting, beginners can try a weaker version – the fruit and vegetable diet (see below). Here you also start with two relief days and end with the build-up days. The difference: not only liquid food is allowed, but also fruit and vegetables. Cigarettes, coffee, soft drinks, and sweets are taboo. To support the cleansing, the bowel should be emptied regularly with Glauber’s salt (pharmacy). By removing toxins and waste products in this way, you avoid feelings of hunger and complaints such as headaches and body aches. Yoga, swimming, or other light sports should accompany the cure because they gently stimulate circulation.
Fasting for beginners
Such a strict therapeutic fasting cure can be quite intimidating. Especially if you have no experience with fasting, you don’t always dare to try the original. For anyone who would still like to try it out without giving up solid food completely, we recommend a fruit and vegetable regimen. Here, too, the body only absorbs a small number of calories, but instead, it absorbs a large number of vitamins and mainly alkaline foods, which stimulate intestinal activity. There is also liquid during the fasting period in the form of herbal teas, ginger water, and water.
