Make Chewing Gum Yourself – That’s How it Works

You need this to make chewing gum

The main ingredient chicle is relatively difficult to obtain. You can order a box with all the ingredients you need online.

  • 60g chicle
  • Natural flavors to taste
  • 18 g glycerin (from the pharmacy or the Internet)
  • ½ tsp citric acid
  • 70 g sifted powdered sugar
  • 10 g glucose syrup (from the pharmacy or the Internet)

Make chewing gum yourself – step by step

After you have gathered all the ingredients, you can start making chewing gum.

  • Put the chewing gum base Chicle with the glucose syrup, the citric acid, and the aroma in the microwave at approx. 1,000 watts.
  • If you don’t have a microwave, you can heat the ingredients over a hot water bath.
  • After about 30 seconds, stir the mixture and heat for another 30 seconds until the raw mixture has completely melted.
  • Now stir in the glycerin well.
  • Then knead the mass with the sifted powdered sugar until all the sugar is well incorporated. The use of disposable gloves is a good idea here because the whole thing starts to stick.
  • To reduce the sugar content, you can also replace the powdered sugar with xylitol or stevia.
  • Now you can roll out the chewing gum. Then cut it into strips or shape it into balls.
  • The processing should be done quickly because once the chewing gum cools, you won’t be able to shape it as well.
