Onion jam is a great companion for cheese, burgers, game dishes, and much more. In this article, you will learn how you can easily prepare the jam yourself.

Ingredients for making onion jam yourself

  • 1 kg onions, red
  • 500 g preserving sugar
  • some balsamic vinegar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of clove powder

Preparation

The working time is about 20 minutes while the resting time is about 8 hours.

  • Cut the onions into small pieces.
  • Put them in a small saucepan and mix in a pinch of salt and clove powder.
  • Drizzle balsamic vinegar on top, just enough to splatter the top.
  • Cover and let rest for 4 hours.
  • Then add the jam sugar and mix well. Let it steep for another 3-4 hours.
  • Bring the onion mixture to a bubbly boil for 3-4 minutes. Then simmer for another 15-20 minutes on low heat.
  • Pour the hot jam into jars. Seal and turn upside down for a moment. And the jam is ready to enjoy!
