Marinated Herring
The perfect marinated herring recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 8 Herring fillets
- 2 Vegetable onions
- 500 ml Remoulade
- 500 ml Cream / sour cream 40% fat
- 250 ml Yogurt
- 100 ml Cucumber water
- 10 Juniper berries
- 1 Knife point Pimento
- 4 tsp Mustard
- 20 Peppercorns
- 1 tbsp Mustard seeds
- 4 Bay leaves
- 1 Splash White vinegar
- 8 medium sized Gherkins
- 1,5 Apples
- Buy herring fillet in brine, soak for 24 hours, freshen the water several times, peel the onions and cut into thin rings on a vegetable slicer.
- Pour the remoulade, sour cream and yoghurt into a large bowl and add the spices, stir everything well. Peel the apples and cut into cubes, cut the cucumber into small slices and put in the marinade.
- Take the herring fillets out of the water and place them in a large earthenware pot, alternating with the onion rings. Spread the marinade over it and cover it in the fridge for 2 days. Jacket potatoes with fried bacon go well with it. Good Appetite
