More Expensive School Lunches: Social Graduation Demanded

Representatives of parents and students in Hamburg demanded a socially graded subsidy for meals at secondary schools on Tuesday. As of February 1, the authority had canceled previous grants.

School lunch prices have risen about 15 percent since the city subsidy ended. That is why representatives of parents and pupils advocate social differentiation depending on the income of the parents, also at the secondary schools. This is already the case in elementary schools.

It’s about eleven million euros

Children whose parents receive Hartz IV or similar benefits continue to receive food payments. According to the school authorities, the social graduation would cost almost eleven million euros per year.
