Onion sauce: recipe – you will need these ingredients
An onion sauce is easy to make and goes well with a variety of dishes – such as spaetzle with schnitzel, meatballs, or sausages with mustard. To prepare the tasty sauce you need the following ingredients:
- 4 onions (you can also add shallots for a milder taste)
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 100 milliliters of grape juice
- 400 milliliters of vegetable broth
- A dash of whipped cream
- Salt and pepper and fresh herbs of your choice (e.g. parsley)
Here’s how to prepare the onion sauce
Proceed step by step to prepare the onion sauce:
- Peel the onions (or the shallots) and then cut them into small cubes.
- Put the butter in a saucepan. Once liquid, sauté the onions in it until translucent.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onions and continue to sauté the mixture.
- Then add both the grape juice and the vegetable stock, stirring constantly.
- Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes over low heat.
- Add a dash (about 100 milliliters) of cream to the sauce. Now she has to simmer again for a few minutes.
- Finally, season the onion sauce with salt and pepper. Also, sprinkle parsley or other herbs over the sauce.
