Orange-cinnamon Liqueur

Orange-cinnamon Liqueur

The perfect orange-cinnamon liqueur recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 3 piece Organic oranges
  • 2 piece Cinnamon sticks
  • 500 Milliliters Aguardente
  • Optional: vodka, grappa, schnapps
  • 500 Milliliters Water
  • 500 g Sugar brown raw sugar
  • 200 g Sugar fine
  1. Wash oranges, cut into large pieces with the peel and put in a suitable, large, sealable container, e.g. mason jar. Spread the cinnamon sticks between the oranges.
  2. Now fill up with aguardente until the oranges are completely covered. After a short while, the oranges rise and look beyond the schnapps, which is fine. Cover the opening with cling film and seal. Label with date and store for 8 weeks, protected from sunlight (if necessary wrap with aluminum foil). The vessel should be moved back and forth at least once a week.
  3. After 2 months, open the jar and pour the contents through a sieve into a large bowl, pressing the contents down a little with a wooden spoon. Measure out the orange brandy and pour the same amount of water over the sieve filled with oranges and cinnamon into a large, tall saucepan. Here, too, squeeze the whole thing a little so that nothing is lost. Weigh the sugar according to the amount of water and add it to the pot. If the oranges are very sweet, you can add a little less sugar.
  4. Bring the sugar water to a simmer, as soon as the sugar has dissolved and it simmered, let it simmer for about 15 minutes. The sugar water should slide off the spoon as fine little pearls. Now let it cool down.
  5. Have bottles disinfected with boiling hot water ready for filling. As soon as the sugar water has cooled down enough, you can add the orange brandy and mix well. Line a strainer with a tea filter, place it on the first bottle and fill the liqueur with a ladle. You can enjoy it right away, but it is better if it stands for a while longer. Then more of the alcohol taste evaporates and the orange comes into its own.
  6. I had made the double recipe because I had received many fresh oranges from Portugal in January, from my own family. It made a total of 2.6 liters and is around 18-20% alcohol content. The recipe, as stated above, makes about 1250-1300 ml.
  7. It is a very nice gift or a welcome souvenir. Nice and refreshing to enjoy on ice cubes, but works without it. 😉 Also for baking and cooking, always gladly taken.
  8. For good! A saúde !!!
