Preserve Garlic – The Best Tips

Spread the love

This is what you need to pickle garlic

Garlic only lasts a few weeks after purchase. This is annoying because the amount of garlic sold is far too large for normal household use. There is a simple trick you can use to pickle garlic. What you need for this:

  • Garlic,
  • a bowl,
  • a knife or a hand blender,
  • oil and
  • a clean jar with a cap.

Step by step: How to make garlic last longer

In just a few steps you can preserve garlic for several months. The oil preserves the natural aroma of the garlic, so you can still benefit from the intense taste after a while. And this is how you pickle garlic:

  1. Peel any garlic cloves you want to pickle.
  2. Chop them up as you like, or toss the cloves whole in a bowl.
  3. After adding the garlic to the bowl, pour about three-quarters of the oil over it.
  4. You can puree the garlic at this point if you want it to be very fine.
  5. Then fill it into the glass and pour in enough oil to completely cover the garlic.
  6. Seal the jar and store the garlic in a dry and dark place, such as a closet or basement.

Preserving garlic: tips and tricks

  • You can also douse the garlic cloves all over with oil and then scoop them out as needed. This gives you more flexibility later in the preparation.
  • It is just as possible to cut the garlic cloves into small pieces, crush them, or something similar. The hand blender does not always have to be used. That depends entirely on your taste.
  • Basically, before pickling, you should always make sure to select high-quality garlic cloves. The same applies to oil.
  • You should clean the jar well beforehand and make sure that no other substances get on the garlic. This affects its durability.
