Q10 has been one of the most popular ingredients in the beauty industry for a number of years. But what exactly is behind the name and what can Q10 really do? We tell you everything you need to know about the big beauty hype!
Whether day creams, masks, or serums: Q10 can be found in countless cosmetic products – but also naturally in your body. Because: This vitamin-like active ingredient is part of your organism and is found in each and every one of your cells. The tasks of coenzyme Q10 (which is also known as ubiquinone) are divided into two.
On the one hand, Q10 helps the cells to generate energy and is therefore essential for growth and repair processes. A deficiency in this area manifests itself in general tiredness, exhaustion, and a weak immune system.
The second task of Q10: The coenzyme has an antioxidant effect. That means it protects your cells from aggressive oxygen compounds, the number of which increases in the body due to UV radiation, stress and environmental toxins. These so-called free radicals in turn damage the cells and thus contribute to signs of aging such as wrinkles.
How does Q10 affect my skin?
Although your body produces Q10 itself, production of the active ingredient decreases with age. But: Fortunately, you can supply the active ingredient to your body both internally (through foods such as nuts and vegetable oils or dietary supplements) and externally (in the form of cosmetics).
In the beauty industry, Q10 is mainly used in skincare and is particularly valued in the anti-aging area. Textures enriched with the coenzyme should arm the skin cells against oxidative stress. This strengthens the skin’s defense mechanisms and slows down the formation of signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, Q10 – as already mentioned – boosts the energy supply of the cells. The result: a radiant complexion that immediately appears more youthful. You see: It can definitely be worthwhile to integrate Q10 into your daily facial care!
