  • 50 ml olive oil

Instructions

Veggie version of the Rhenish specialty

Peel and wash the potatoes (not new potatoes!), and peel the onions. Grate the potatoes and onions, stir in the eggs and breadcrumbs, and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit). Pour the olive oil into a suitable roasting or casserole dish, rotating the dish until all sides are coated. Pour in the batter and place the dish in the oven. Bake for 2 hours. Applesauce goes very well with it. The original recipe calls for 250g of diced lean smoked bacon, and the Deppekoche is prepared in a cast-iron dish.
