Simple caraway sticks

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • ½ cube of yeast
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 400 ml water
  • Flour for the work surface
  • 2 tbsp caraway seeds
  • 2 tsp salt, coarse
  • some water for brushing

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 55 minutes

Dissolve the yeast and sugar in 150 ml of lukewarm water and let stand for about 10 minutes. Place the flour and salt in a bowl, add the yeast starter and 1/4 liter of lukewarm water, and knead into a smooth dough using the dough hook of a hand mixer. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour. Shape the dough into a log and divide into 14 pieces. On a floured surface, shape each piece into a log (about 15 cm long). Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, brush with a little water, and sprinkle with salt and caraway seeds. Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 220 °C. Bake the logs for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
