Simply Peel The Avocado: This is How it Works

[lwptoc]

We show you how you can easily peel avocados and cut them into nice pieces or slices. Because the fruits are not only delicious and healthy but are also perfect for spicing up many dishes.

Peeling avocados made easy: the first steps

First, you need to make sure that the avocado is ripe. The quickest way to do this is with a simple pressure test. Press the bowl lightly with your thumb. If this gives way, the inside is ripe and the avocado is edible. Hard avocados should be left to ripen a little longer.

  • Now use a sharp knife to cut lengthwise around the fruit, along the avocado core.
  • Now you can pull the two avocado halves apart with a slight twist.
  • Now let the knife blade fall slightly into the stone so that it gets stuck in it. Again with a slight twist, the core loosens and stays on the blade.

How to peel the avocado with your fingers

The next step is to quarter the avocado, i.e. halve the two halves again in the middle. So this cut is rotated 90 degrees to the first one.

  • The peel can now be removed from the four avocado parts with your fingers. The fruit is peeled with it.
  • Alternative “peeling method”: Carefully cut the halved fruit in a diamond shape with a knife. If you don’t damage the skin, you can use a spoon to remove the avocado pieces.
