Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 can peas
  • 2 large carrots
  • 3 large potatoes
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 1 tbsp, heaped paprika paste or tomato paste
  • Oil or butter
  • 2 tsp, heaped vegetable broth, instant
  • 600 ml water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt and pepper
  • Garlic
  • Spice mix (e.g. seven-spice mix from the Turkish supermarket)

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Peel the carrots, potatoes, and onion and cut into bite-sized pieces. Drain the peas and pour a little water over them to reduce their sweetness. Add butter or oil to a saucepan and the paprika paste. Cook this mixture over high heat for about 3 minutes. Pour the broth into a separate container and add hot water to the pan. Then add the vegetables and bay leaves. Season the stew generously with salt, pepper, garlic, and Turkish spices (e.g., seven-spice blend). Simmer the stew over medium heat for another 20 minutes. Serve with rice as a side dish.
