Unusual barbecue idea: beer can chicken

This unusual barbecue idea has it all. Good beer and chicken are part of every typical barbecue. Why not combine both on the grill? The Beer Can Chicken does just that.

  • For this, you need a whole chicken and a 0.33 liter can of beer.
  • For the spice mixture, you need two teaspoons each of coarse sea salt, paprika powder, chili powder, garlic granules, and one teaspoon each of ground cumin, coriander seeds, and pepper.
  • First, you need to wash the chicken well and then dry it with kitchen paper. Mix the spices and some oil into a marinade.
  • Now comes the exciting part. Open the beer can and empty it to a third. Then pull the chicken over this as far as possible. Then brush the chicken with the marinade.
  • Now grill the chicken for 60 minutes at 180-200° indirect heat. For temperature checking, you can use a thermometer to monitor the core temperature. At the thickest part of the thigh or breast, this should be at least 75°.
  • After half an hour you should brush the chicken again with the marinade. The inside of the chicken becomes very tender from the beer fumes and the outer skin becomes very crispy from the high temperatures.

Unusual barbecue idea: vegan option

Grilling vegan is super easy. The vegetables get a smoky note on the grill and become a little crispy. However, you have to pre-cook some vegetables such as carrots and potatoes. Sesame oyster mushroom skewers are a rather rare vegan grill dish that you should definitely try.

  • For four servings you need two tablespoons of sesame seeds, four tablespoons of soy sauce, one and a half tablespoons of dark sesame oil, two tablespoons of sugar, 400 grams of oyster mushrooms, two cloves of garlic, and two spring onions.
  • Heat the sesame seeds in an ungreased pan for four minutes. Stir the seeds until toasted and fragrant. But beware, sesame burns quickly.
  • Clean the mushrooms and cut off the stem ends. Peel and chop the garlic; Wash and finely chop the scallions as well.
Combine soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar while stirring, and let the mixture sit for ten minutes to allow the sugar to dissolve.
  • Then stir in the onions and garlic and marinate the mushrooms in it for 20 minutes.
  • Then you can put the mushrooms on suitable grill skewers. After five to eight minutes on the grill, they will be soft and cooked through. You can also enjoy the mushrooms cold afterward.

Unusual barbecue idea: Grilled tuna

It doesn’t always have to be meat on the grill. This grilled tuna recipe is guaranteed to make you love grilled fish.

  • For four servings you need four tuna steaks. The marinade contains lime, two cloves of garlic, half a bunch of parsley, and three tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Rinse the fish under cold water first, then pat dry. If you bought a whole piece of tuna, you will need to cut individual steaks out of it. Each of these steaks should be an inch or two thick.
  • The grill marinade is not absolutely necessary. Some prefer the pure taste of the fish. For the marinade, squeeze the lime and mix with the finely chopped garlic. Add the finely chopped parsley. Mixed with the olive oil you can now brush the tuna steak with it. The mixture should then steep for 30 minutes.
  • Drain the oil a little so it doesn’t fall onto the embers when the steak is on the grill. Grill the fish for three to four minutes on each side over direct heat. The inside of the tuna is still slightly raw and juicy. Then season the fish with salt and pepper.
