What are vital substances?

From a scientific point of view, the term “vital substances” is not exactly defined – in contrast to designations such as vitamins, trace elements, or minerals. However, these are commonly included, along with many other substances such as antioxidants and healthy fatty acids. The definition of vital substances is ultimately up to you. Be careful with excessive use of the term in advertising: not everything that is declared here as a vital substance has a proven health benefit. You are on the safe side with the following list of vital substances that are recognized to contribute to a healthy diet and have an effect on the body:

Where are vital substances contained?

As a rule, the content of vitamins decreases when fruit and vegetables are stored for a long time. For vitamin-rich recipes, the ingredients should therefore be as fresh as possible. Depending on individual needs, a supplementation of vital substances in this form can be useful and even necessary. For example, doctors prescribe folic acid and iodine for additional intake during pregnancy. However, the basis for the nutrient supply is always a balanced diet, a dietary supplement is always just an addition.

What can a vital diet look like?

As varied as possible! Ideally, eat lots of different colored fruits and vegetables and keep trying out new recipes, so you automatically get a wide range of vital substances – without studying long tables. Also, make sure that the proportions of macronutrients are correct. The food pyramid helps you to keep an eye on the right ratio. If you have problems with diet-related illnesses or an increased need for certain vital substances, it is best to consult a professional nutritionist. Because in addition to the selection of foods, their preparation also plays a major role in determining the content of vitamins, minerals, etc.
