“Aiming for a normal body weight helps against high cholesterol levels. You can achieve this with a high-fiber diet and plenty of exercises. Best suited: cycling, walking, or walking that is easy on the joints. Switch to whole grain and fresh products from the organic shop. They contain a greater nutrient density than, for example, white flour products from ready-made baking mixes. Eat lots of vegetables and fruit – because they lower the “bad” so-called LDL cholesterol, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. At the same time, they boost the production of the “good” HDL cholesterol, which protects the blood vessels. Foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids (e.g. fish, linseed oil) are also important. Alternatively, a concentrate of so-called micro-nutrients (e.g. Lavita, Orthomol, pharmacy or health food store) achieve a similar effect.”

Conventional physicians recommend this for high cholesterol levels

“Although LDL cholesterol is also vital, if there is too much of it in the blood, it can build up in the arterial walls and lead to vasoconstriction. Whether the doctor prescribes cholesterol-lowering drugs (so-called CSE inhibitors) always depends on the respective risk profile. They are standard for diabetes or heart attack patients, for example. In principle, physical exercise and a change in diet are a guarantee of success. Lean or low-fat varieties of all animal foods – except fish – should be on the table. It is better to use coconut oil, butter, cream, and bacon sparingly. Low-fat and cholesterol-free are bread, rice, oatmeal, vegetables, salads, fruit, legumes, and potatoes.
