  • Garlic in raw form is considered a natural antibiotic as it has antibacterial properties, is effective against fungi and contains immune-boosting antioxidants. These also support the body in fighting free radicals and thus dangerous cell changes.
  • In addition to one of the main components allicin, garlic also contains a lot of important vitamins, namely vitamin B6, vitamin C, zinc and manganese. These strengthen the connective tissue and the bones and also support bone formation.
  • Garlic is good for the intestines because its antibacterial effect kills harmful germs and at the same time stimulates digestion. This in turn, in combination with allicin, which lowers blood sugar levels, means that garlic can also help with weight loss.

How to use garlic

Opinions are divided when it comes to garlic: some love it in their food, others just think it stinks. It is precisely the stench that is due to the health benefits of the tuber. It is formed by the sulfur compounds allicin and ajoene. To get the best possible effect from garlic, you need to keep a few things in mind when preparing it.

  • When preparing, you should make sure that you cut the garlic rather than squeezing it. The latter destroys the cells of the toes and the sulfur compounds are lost. When cutting, on the other hand, the cells are largely preserved and the healthy components of garlic really end up in the food.
  • A direct way to consume garlic is by eating raw cloves. The recommended dose per day is around 4 grams. However, raw garlic is too hot for many and does not taste particularly good.
  • If you are uncomfortable eating garlic directly, you can also make a paste with oil that is gently cooked at around 70 degrees. Healthy sulfur compounds are lost in this process, but the taste is not quite as intense and some healthy substances remain.
  • There are also ready-made preparations that contain garlic. You can get these in the form of dragees, capsules or tablets, for example. It is best to consult your doctor or pharmacist about these preparations in order to use them correctly.

Garlic as a home remedy in everyday life

Garlic is not very helpful by eating it. There are also other areas of application in which the tuber proves to be a great home remedy in everyday life.
