You’ll also need a bendy straw. First of all, this cake isn’t as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy, then beat in the eggs. Add the bitter almond essence and continue stirring. If you don’t like bitter almond oil, you can of course use vanilla or lemon. Sift the flour and baking powder and stir in alternately with the milk. You should have a nice, creamy batter. Then briefly fold in the chocolate chips. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Pour some batter into a silicone muffin tin. If you don’t have one, place two paper ones inside each other. Pour the rest of the batter into a greased loaf tin and bake for about 25 minutes. Then do a skewer test. Let everything cool completely. Sift the powdered sugar. Knead 400g of marzipan with 80g of powdered sugar and green food coloring. Knead 180g of marzipan with 40g of powdered sugar and red food coloring well. Roll out the green marzipan thinly between sheets of cling film, cover the loaf pan completely, press down firmly and carefully trim off any excess. Place the muffin on the loaf cake as a command bridge, cover with thinly rolled out green marzipan, press down and carefully trim off any excess. Shorten the bendy straw and pierce it through the middle of the muffin until only the top bent end sticks out like a periscope. Shape the remaining green marzipan into a long and a short thin roll. Wrap the long roll completely around the submarine and press gently, while the short roll is wrapped around the muffin. Now form lots of little balls from the leftover green marzipan and press them all the way around the rolls (for the loaf pan and the muffin). Using a skewer, each ball is carefully pressed into the mold to resemble rivets. The red marzipan is divided into five pieces and formed into octopus arms, which are placed over the submarine to make it look as if the octopus is trying to pull the boat into the depths. The remaining uncolored marzipan is then rolled into small balls, which will serve as suction cups on the tentacles. These, too, are gently pressed into the mold with the skewer. The remaining powdered sugar is mixed with a little water to form a very thick glaze to adhere the gummy bears, licorice, etc., to the boat.
