Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 70 g bacon, diced
- 1 onion(s), diced
- 1 large can of sauerkraut
- 100 g sour cream
- 3 tbsp whipped cream
- 2 Cabanossi
- 1 kg potatoes (floury or mostly waxy)
- e.g. milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- nutmeg
- Paprika powder, sweet
- salt and pepper
- possibly marjoram
- possibly fried onions
- 100 g cheese (Gouda), grated or breadcrumbs and butter flakes
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour
Brown the bacon and onion cubes and mix with the roughly chopped sauerkraut, sour cream, cream, salt, and pepper. Place in a Tupperware Ultra 3-liter container or another slightly taller casserole dish with a capacity of approximately 3 liters. Halve the Cabanossi lengthwise and slice them, arrange them on top of the sauerkraut, and sprinkle with paprika. Mash the potatoes with the butter and milk. Stir in nutmeg, pepper, salt, and, to taste, fried onions and marjoram. Spread the mashed potatoes over the Cabanossi slices. Top with either grated cheese or breadcrumbs and knobs of butter. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat: 180°C) for approximately 30 minutes.
