Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 8 slice(s) toast bread (sandwich toast)
  • 50 g margarine
  • 150 g cheese (medium-aged Gouda), grated
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ liter vegetable broth
  • ⅛ liter whipped cream
  • pepper
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Spread each slice of toast with margarine. Spread 100g of cheese evenly between 4 slices of toast and top each with another slice of toast. Cut the sandwiches diagonally. Mix together the eggs, vegetable broth, and heavy cream and season with pepper. Place the sandwiches in a shingle-like arrangement in a greased, square baking dish and pour the liquid evenly over them. Let stand for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the sandwiches. Bake the cheese casserole in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 25 minutes, until set. Sprinkle with coarsely ground pepper and serve immediately.
