Why Should Complementary Food Be Prepared with Orange Juice?

Spread the love

It is recommended to add orange juice to baby food. If this juice before preparation, e.g. the vegetable puree, or only added before feeding, i.e. not cooked?

Orange juice does not necessarily have to be added to the complementary food, it can also be other juice.
The background is that fruit juice contains vitamin C. (Orange juice tends to contain larger amounts of vitamin C than some other juices).
Vitamin C helps with digestion so that the iron from plant foods is better absorbed.

Since vitamin C is destroyed by heat, you should only add the juice after cooking. It is a good idea to add it before pureeing, as the juice makes the consistency a little more liquid and makes pureeing easier.

Be sure to buy fruit juice. This consists of 100% fruit. The situation is different with fruit nectars or fruit juice drinks. A lot of sugar can be added to these.
