Make balsamic vinegar yourself: This is how you succeed
You can quickly make balsamic vinegar from red wine vinegar and currant juice. And this is how it works:
- For balsamic vinegar you need 500 ml of red wine vinegar, a liter of currant juice, and a tablespoon of honey.
- To achieve a good result, always use high-quality red wine vinegar and honey from the beekeeper.
- First put the juice in a saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat until only half the juice is left.
- Now pour in the red wine vinegar. Let the whole thing continue to simmer until only a third of the mass is left in the pot. Then add
- the honey. You can vary the amount according to your taste.
- Finally, boil the mixture again.
- Now all you have to do is fill the liquid into sterilized bottles.
- Store your homemade balsamic vinegar in a dark, cool place.
How to make red wine vinegar for your balsamic vinegar
For your balsamic vinegar, you need red wine vinegar, which you can buy or simply make yourself from red wine. However, this method is a bit more complex.
- For a balsamic vinegar made from red wine you need 700 ml of red wine. The drink should be full-bodied and low in sulfur.
- You will also need 300 ml water, 100 ml mother of vinegar, 500 ml grape juice, and a tablespoon of honey.
- Before you start making your balsamic vinegar, you must first make vinegar from red wine.
- Put the water, mother of vinegar, and red wine in a glass jar. A bulbous glass bottle is particularly suitable for this.
- Then close the bottle with a cotton swab. Put the jar in a warm place. The ideal temperature is between 25 and 30 degrees.
- Depending on how much acid you want in your vinegar, allow the red wine vinegar to mature for up to two weeks.
- After two weeks, pour the mixture into a clean bottle after filtering it.
- Put the bottle in a cool place for another two months to mature. Then you can use it for your homemade balsamic vinegar.
- To keep the vinegar for a long time, it is best to store it in a cool, dark place.
