Ginger drives out: still edible?
If the ginger sprout, you can tell by the narrow green shoots that form from the tubers.
- However, you can still use the ginger for consumption. Even then, ginger is neither poisonous nor a risk to your health.
- For further consumption, simply cut off the fine shoots. Then wash and peel the ginger before processing.
- It is best to store the root in dark, dry, and cool rooms such as the basement or pantry.
- However, sprouting means that the storage has taken place for too long and in too much light or too much heat.
- Unfortunately, if the ginger expels, its healthy effect is reduced.
How to plant ginger
Once the ginger has been expelled, you can plant it yourself.
- To do this, fill a flowerpot two-thirds full with nutrient-rich soil.
- Then place the tuber on the ground with the sprout facing up and cover it with soil.
- Place the pot in a frost-proof, light, and warm place.
- The soil should always be moist but never wet.
- You can harvest the ginger tuber after about seven to nine months.
