Cherry Vine Tomatoes – Aromatic Treats

Spread the love

Botanically, tomatoes belong to the nightshade family, which puts them in the same family as the potato. There are more than 2,500 varieties in total, with the variety increasing all the time. Tomatoes are basically divided into four main groups, which also include cherry tomatoes on the vine. Visually, they are most similar to the original tomato shape.

Origin

The tomato plant has its origins in the Peruvian Andes, where it is still found wild today. It was Columbus who brought the tomato to Europe.

Season

In Germany, the tomato season runs from June to November. Due to the great popularity of the tomato, you can get fresh produce all year round.

Taste

The small tomatoes on the vine are aromatic-sweet, nice and juicy and pleasantly crunchy. Due to the panicle, they retain their strong tomato aroma over a longer period of time.

Use

Cherry vine tomatoes taste best straight from the vine into your mouth. With their strong taste they captivate in every salad.

Storage

Cherry vine tomatoes should always be stored in the dark. However, you should be careful that the temperature is not too low. Many keep tomatoes in the fridge, but that’s not the best place to store the vegetables. A temperature of approx. 16 °C is ideal for cherry vine tomatoes. However, the cherry vine tomatoes should not be stored for too long. Aroma and freshness are retained for about a week. The natural ethylene that tomatoes give off causes other vegetables or fruits to age faster. That’s why you should always give tomatoes their own space and not keep them close together with other vegetables or fruit.
