Potato stew according to an old Holstein recipe

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg potatoes, mainly waxy
  • 1 bunch of soup vegetables
  • 4 Mettenden or other smoked sausage
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 2 tbsp chicken broth, granulated
  • 1 tsp pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 tsp savory
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • e.g. water, boiling

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

hearty, rustic

Slice the mettenden sausages and fry them in the stockpot. Dice the onion and fry until golden brown. Clean and dice the soup vegetables and potatoes, and add them. Add boiling water until everything is well covered. Stir in the granulated stock, savory, pepper, and nutmeg, and season to taste. Simmer the stew for 20 minutes.
